The Role
The Director of Network Facilities (DNF) will report to the Senior Director of Real Estate + Facilities (RE+F) and lead the vision and execution of facilities excellence across Prospect Schools’ growing portfolio. They will ensure all school buildings and offices are safe, clean, and fully operational to support a welcoming and mission-aligned environment for staff and students.
The DNF will manage day-to-day building operations, oversee a team of building managers and contracted custodial staff, and partner closely with Network Operations and RE+F team members. Key responsibilities include managing capital and operational projects, developing and overseeing maintenance plans, and ensuring consistent, high-quality service delivery across all sites. This includes supervising the use of a ticketing system to track facilities needs and continuously improve responsiveness and outcomes.
This leadership role is especially critical as the network expands into two new buildings, including a new school opening next year. The DNF will also be responsible for managing annual facilities budgets and optimizing staff and resources across sites.
The ideal candidate has experience in property or building management, team leadership, and operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments. They will bring strong operational acumen, a proactive and accountable mindset, and a deep commitment to the mission of Prospect Schools.
Primary Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Building Operations

Oversee the operational aspects of assigned properties in a manner that protects, maintains, and improves the value of the facilities and delivers excellent customer service to all stakeholders;

Ensure compliance with applicable building, city/county and state codes and regulations (FDNY, pest control, HVAC, exhaust cleaning, window cleaning, local law compliance etc.);

On a 24-hour basis, respond as necessary to any building emergencies, and develop staffing schedule that ensures 24/7 emergency coverage;

Be out in the field regularly; conduct weekly meetings and build relationships quickly with school-based teams;
Team Management

Create a work environment for our building teams that attracts, develops and retains talent in order to meet current and future challenges, and identify succession plans for facilities leadership and onboarding of new staff;

Directly manage performance and accountability of facilities staff working in our buildings;

Foster a strong customer service culture: proactive communication, responsiveness, problem-solving, and professionalism;
Network Facilities + Budget Planning

Design, manage, and revise key facilities processes in a scalable format to support facilities management and maintenance oversight;
-
Ensure effective ticket system utilization across all relevant users and ensure timely responses by the facilities team to requests;

Manage data flow from the ticketing system and create tools for reporting, sharing, and driving insights;

Support in the development and own the management of annual Friends of Prospect Schools (leasehold entity) operating budget;

Commission, review, vet and manage building audits to inform the routine maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance programs for all building systems, components and equipment;

Partner with the Sr. Director of RE+F and the Director of Capital Projects (DCP) to develop and implement long-term goals and strategies related to the upkeep and maintenance of all Prospect buildings, including creation of a capital plan for each campus that outlines the expected useful life and replacement plan for all critical building systems;

Contract ongoing maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance programs for major equipment including but not limited to HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, structural, elevator, and electrical systems;

Monitor the performance of onsite facilities services, ensuring that staff and contracted services are performing to network standards and state & local codes/regulations;

Oversee all contracted services, including developing scopes of work, requesting bids, and monitoring performance per scopes of work and contractual agreements;

Develop a safety program to include regular safety training and adherence to standard safety protocols;

Coordinate with DCP and school-based Directors of Operations (DSOs) to ensure seamless execution of building projects as needed;

Regularly communicate and meet with school administrators regarding facility needs and concerns;

Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent required, Post-secondary degree preferred;
-
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in building operations, engineering, and equipment and systems maintenance with progressive responsibility and a minimum of (3) years as a supervisor;

A high level of attention to detail and follow-through;

Strong customer service and proactive communication skills;
-
Ability to create and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency;

Ability to work autonomously and handle multiple projects simultaneously;

Strong sense of professionalism and ethics;
-
Skilled in building maintenance, including hands-on experience with basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general repairs;

Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) will be beneficial for future facilities planning;
-
Competence with Excel, Google Suite, and the technology necessary to operate a facilities service ticketing system;
-
Prior experience with managing and developing staff;
-
Certification, or the willingness to become certified as deemed necessary in areas including:
-
Interior Fire Alarm (S-95, FDNY Certificate of Fitness);
-
Fire Safety Director (F-85, FDNY Certificate of Fitness);
-
Low-Pressure Boiler Operator (P-99, FDNY Certificate of Fitness);
-
Sprinkler (S-12, FDNY Certificate of Fitness);
-
Standpipe (S-13, FDNY Certificate of Fitness);
-
Familiarity with OSHA and other Life Safety codes, etc.;

Air Compressor (A-35, FDNY Certificate of Fitness);
-
Air Pollution Certification (DEP Certificate);
-
Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Refrigerant Certification;
-
Possession of a New York City license or Certificate of Qualification as an Oil Burning Equipment Installer, High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer, or Refrigerating Machine Operator.

Able to pass a criminal background check given by the Department of Education
Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is from $116,000–$131,343.
