Position Summary:
The Associate Director of Network Humanities for Grades 6-12 will support Prospect Schools’ mission to prepare students for college and lifelong learning, with a focus on ensuring humanities readiness for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in grades 11 and 12 at Brooklyn Prospect High School. This role involves enhancing humanities skills for middle and high school students, guiding them to meet the rigorous demands of a college-preparatory environment, and equipping them with the self-advocacy and critical thinking skills needed for success as global citizens.
Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Implementation

Select and/or refine humanities curriculum for grades 6-12, with a progression that builds foundational skills and prepares students for the IB Diploma Program (IBDP) in grades 11 and 12.

Develop curriculum maps, scope, and sequence documents, and assessment tools that align with both NY State Regents requirements and the globally recognized IB standards.

Incorporate globally minded and culturally responsive texts that reflect the diversity of the Brooklyn Prospect community, enriching students' perspectives and preparing them for a rigorous, internationally-focused education.

Professional Development and Teacher Support

Design and lead professional development sessions on effective literacy strategies, building humanities content knowledge, and IB-aligned instructional methods to prepare students for success in the IBDP.

Provide targeted coaching for teachers in grades 6-10 to strengthen humanities instructional and lesson planning skills and foster skills necessary for the critical analysis, independent thinking, and self-reflection required in the IBDP.

Support the implementation of inquiry-based and differentiated instruction that aligns with Prospect Schools' mission to equip students for high-level thinking and post-secondary success.

Data Analysis and Progress Monitoring

Diagnose the strengths and areas for growth of programs across the network, working with academic leaders to create proposals for improvement and aligned support

Utilize data to assess humanities skills development from middle school through high school, ensuring students are prepared for the IB’s rigorous academic and intellectual demands.

Collaborate with instructional leaders to set data-driven goals for humanities achievement, closely monitoring progress and addressing any gaps that may impact students' readiness for IB coursework.

Collaboration and Leadership

Serve as a humanities coach for 6-12 leaders, supporting a cohesive instructional approach across departments to reinforce skills students need for IB and Regents success.

Build partnerships with teachers, families, and community members to promote a culture of reading and lifelong learning that aligns with Prospect Schools’ mission.

Equity and Inclusion

Support Prospect Schools’ dedication to equity and inclusion by integrating diverse perspectives and culturally relevant materials into the humanities curriculum.

In collaboration with the Director of Network Literacy, implement strategies to close literacy gaps for students from varied educational backgrounds, particularly for students joining the network in middle or high school.

Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where all students feel represented and valued in their literacy journey.
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Education, History, Humanities, Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field preferred.

At least 5 years of teaching experience, with 3+ years in literacy/humanities leadership roles within secondary education.

Expertise in literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and familiarity with IB standards or internationally focused education preferred.

Strong skills in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and data-informed instruction.

Dedication to diversity, equity, and fostering a community of lifelong learners prepared for global impact.
Preferred:

Experience with IB programs or college-preparatory curriculum models.
