About the Position:

Prospect Schools is a mission-driven non-profit charter school, seeking an Associate Director of Finance to manage day-to-day accounting functions for two independent entities and work as part of a team to ensure the financial health of our organization. The Associate Director of Finance will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, enforcing internal controls,  executing A/P and A/R payments, and support the budgeting process by preparing financial data and providing insight in spending patterns to help achieve our mission of a diverse student body that positively impacts society and develops a passion for lifelong learning.

The ideal candidate will be a resourceful, detail-oriented team player with strong problem-solving, communication, process organization, and customer service skills capable of thriving in a results-driven and confidential environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management and Reporting

    • Manage the full-cycle accounting process for two independent support entities, ensuring compliance with GAAP.

    • Ensure the implementation of fiscal controls and adherence to Financial Policies & Procedures

    • Prepare, analyze and review monthly internal financial reports with the Director of Finance and elevate observations about material budget variances and financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow reports.

    • Monitor cash flow and make recommendations for financial sustainability

    • Conduct financial reconciliations, including credit card and intercompany transactions, and support with monthly bank reconciliations.

    • Coordinate with team members to ensure timely month-end and year-end closing processes for both entities.

  • Accounts Payable and Receivable Management

    • Process vendor invoices, credit card, employee reimbursements, and other payments in a timely and accurate manner.

    • Work with HR Operations to post payroll into the accounting system.

    • Track and manage all revenue streams, including federal and private grants and other revenue streams

    • Maintain strong relationships with vendors, customers, and financial institutions

    • Ensure accurate recording of transactions and proper revenue and expense classifications

  • Tax Compliance & Regulatory Reporting

    • Assist in internal and external audits, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.

    • Assist in the compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations, including the filing of the 990

    • Preparing annual 1099 filings.

  • Support the Director of Finance and Finance team with financial analysis, reporting, and compliance for ad hoc projects as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  •  3-5 years of accounting and financial reporting experience.

  • Prior experience working in a school or non-profit preferred.

  • Technical Skill: Demonstrate expertise in accounting, including A/P, A/R and reconciliation using advanced tools (Excel) and software (Sage Intacct) to support accurate and informed decision making.

Salary

Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $101,905.
